What is our policy on artificial bovine growth hormone?

Since April 1, 2005 all Tillamook County Creamery Association members and contract milk suppliers for our cheese production have certified that all milk they deliver to our facilities in Boardman, Ore. and Tillamook, Ore. is from cows not supplemented with the artificial bovine growth hormone rBST.

Responsiveness to our customers is one of our guiding principles.  From market and consumer research, we determined that using milk produced without rBST supplementation better meets our customers' expectations about our brand - a brand associated with premium quality, consistent and best tasting Tillamook cheese made in the century-old tradition of our founders.  So the board and members voted to require members and suppliers to certify all milk delivered to our facilities be from cows not supplemented with rBST.

Our first priority was to certify the milk used to make our cheese because cheese makes up 85% of our sales.  Milk for some of our other dairy products comes from different suppliers.  We are working with those suppliers to implement the same no artificial bovine growth hormone policy for all Tillamook dairy products. Full implementation will take some time.
