Tillamook County Creamery Association Celebrates 100th Anniversary on Aug. 1
July 17, 2009

Tillamook County Creamery Association (TCCA) formed as a farmer-owned cooperative in 1909 as a quality control organization. Since then, it has earned a reputation as the marketers of one of the nation’s premier brands of cheese. On Saturday, Aug. 1, TCCA will celebrate its 100th anniversary at the Tillamook Cheese Factory from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

“We at TCCA have a great deal of pride in our history as a farmer-owned co-operative and in continuing to deliver quality dairy products to our customers,” said Harold Strunk, president and CEO of TCCA. “We are proud to celebrate our 100-year old traditions and are excited to share our anniversary products and events with our consumers.”

The hometown anniversary celebration will be a day full of fun activities, tasty Tillamook® treats and family-friendly entertainment. Events that are happening all day long include free samples of the limited edition anniversary cheddar cheese, ice cream and fudge; cooking with Tillamook cheese demonstrations by the Seafood Steward, Chef Gary Puetz; gourmet food sampling; wine and beer tasting from several local vendors; and Centennial Grilled Cheese Sandwiches will be cooking on the griddle. Visitors can meet the cheesemakers, or the Tillamook® mascots, Tillie the Cow and Loafy.

Scheduled musical entertainment includes Kathryn Claire – Kinderqueen, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.; Rhythm Culture, 12:30 p.m. – 2 p.m.; and The Oyster Shooters, 3 p.m. – 6 p.m.

There will also be many activities for the kids to enjoy, from face painting, balloons and games, to a petting zoo and cow milking demonstrations.

Everyone is invited to attend the centennial celebration and enjoy the day’s special events. After partaking of the festivities outside, head inside to the Visitors Center and enjoy the video presentations, the new historical storyboard displays, touch-screen kiosks, gift and gourmet shops, or catch a bird’s-eye-view of the cheesemaking and packaging operations.

Overflow event parking will be at the Blue Heron, one mile south on Highway 101. A free shuttle will transport visitors to and from the event.
